Net Impact Of LeBron's Decision On Team Values

Here are the approximate changes in team values because of LeBron James' decision to play for the Miami Heat. I will have final numbers in December when we come out with our annual ranking of NBA franchise values. But these are close (listed from biggest winners to biggest losers):

Heat increased in value from $364 million to $410 million. Could go higher during next three seasons but team still has a lot of arena debt to pay off.

Chicago Bulls will stay at $551 million or so. They have a very good team after signing Carlos Boozer (making it easier to sell suites and sponsorships) and a smart owner.

Los Angeles Clippers continue to be worth $295 million. The the third-ranked tenant after the Kings and Lakers at Staples Center will continue to be low-cost, profitable operator.

New Jersey Nets fall in value from $269 million to $250 million. But value could easily go above $350 million if premium seating and sponsorship sales are robust at new Brooklyn arena.

New York Knicks decreased in value from $586 million to $550 million. Team still far from good even after signing Amare Stoudemire making it more difficult to cash in on planned MSG renovations.

Cleveland Cavaliers plummet in value from $476 million to $390 million. Made the fatal mistake of hitching entire franchise to one mega star, something small market teams in the NBA should never, ever do (has anyone heard from the Minnesota Timberwolves since Kevin Garnett bolted for Boston?)
